Hornsent Grandam Questline - Elden Ring Guide - IGN (2024)

The Hornsent Grandam is one of the new NPCs you’ll encounter in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree who has a questline that runs alongside the main story. As another member of the Hornsent people, she shares the same desire for vengeance. To complete her side quest, here’s everything you need to know from where to find her, to the choices you’ll face, and the outcomes of those decisions.

Where to Find the Hornsent Grandam

Unlike other NPCs, the Hornsent Grandam will stay in one place. You can find her in Belurat, Tower Settlement in the northwest of Gravesite Plain. As you progress through Belurat, Tower Settlement, you’ll come to a Small Private Altar Tower of Grace.

From this Site of Grace, exit through the door to the northwest, and immediately turn left. You’ll step onto a bridge with two enemies watching over the passage below. At the end of this bridge, to the left, you’ll find a locked door that leads to the Storeroom.

How to Find the Belurat, Tower Settlement Storeroom Key

Before you can open it, you’ll need to locate the Storeroom Key. To reach it, go through the door to the north from the Small Private Altar Site of Grace and go up the stairs. Head for the rooftops of the destroyed ruins you'll see as you reach the top of the stairs and follow this over to the northwest.

You'll find a small passageway on the right, that will take you to a small stream of water (be careful of the enemy that will jump out at you as soon as you reach the first archway on the right).

When you get to the water, follow it to the southwest, where it runs off into a waterfall. Just before the waterfall, turn right and into the room to the northwest.

Climb the ladder inside of this room, and at the top, you’ll see a body with an item. This is where you can find the Storeroom Key.

Return to the Small Private Altar Site of Grace and run back along the bridge to unlock the door to reach the Hornsent Grandam. Just like Hornsent, the first meeting with the Hornsent Grandam is filled with her explaining that you’re not welcome. However, she offers more in terms of the lore surrounding the Erdtree and the tower veiled in shadow. She assumes you to be a worker of Messmer and asks if you haven’t taken enough from them already. You can try to talk to her a few times, but you’ll get little from her, as she believes you to be a villain.

After the Divine Beast Dancing Lion Boss Fight

Once you’ve taken on Belurat, Tower Settlements boss the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, you’ll receive the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion. Not only this, but an item will be dropped by the boss, which is the Divine Beast Head. Return to the Storeroom where the Hornsent Grandam is when you've picked this up.

When you enter, she’ll be sleeping if you've already tried to speak to her. If you try to speak to her again, she won’t react and she'll remain in this state until you perform the next action. To get her to speak to you, put on the Divine Beast Head and talk to her again. This time, she’ll be receptive to you.

Now considering you one of the sculpted keepers, she will apologize to you. Keep talking to her and ask you to take her son with you to war, and bring vengeance against Messmer. At the end of this short conversation, she’ll give you the Watchful Spirit Incantation.

If you rest at a Site of Grace, you can return to her and talk again. Doing so will see her give you a Scorpion Stew. You can consume these for a temporary buff, and if you keep coming back to her, she'll hand you this time and time again until you progress her questline. However, you also have the option of giving this to Hornsent. When you hand this over to him, he'll give you 3x Furnace Visage. He will only take this once, and you can collect more Scorpion Stew from her after giving it to him.

Anytime you return to her while still possessing the Scorpion Stew, she’ll tell you to use it when you need to restore vigor and also tell you she’s fine with you throwing it away if you don’t want it.

After Beating Messmar

Return to the Hornsent Grandam after beating Messmar, and she’ll give you Gourmet Scorpion Stew. This will be the final encounter with her, however, as she asks to rest now that the hornsent’s have had their vengeance.
